UHS & ITC
The University of Health Sciences (UHS) and the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC) jointly offer the Associate Degree in Biomedical Engineering, a re-accredited and modernized 3-year study program that equips students with both theoretical and practical knowledge across medicine, biology, physics, and engineering.
Graduates – Biomedical Technicians (BMETs) – are prepared to work in hospitals, clinics, laboratories, and medical device companies. They ensure that medical equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with professional standards. In hospitals, BMETs are responsible for maintenance and safety control of medical devices, while in the private sector they often work as service engineers, calibration specialists, or developers of new diagnostic and therapeutic technologies.
Biomedical Engineering is a truly multidisciplinary field, forming a vital link between healthcare professionals and technology. Doctors, nurses, and BMETs work as a team to deliver the highest quality care while optimizing costs and improving patient safety.

🎓 Academic Excellence and International Cooperation
The program is implemented under the national Core Competency Framework for the Associate Degree in Biomedical Engineering, developed by UHS, ITC, and CTU in collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Cambodia. The framework defines key learning outcomes across four domains:
Scientific Foundations – knowledge in biomedical sciences, engineering, and ICT
Technical Services – practical skills in equipment operation and maintenance
Ethics and Professionalism – understanding of legal, ethical, and teamwork principles
Management and Communication – skills in documentation, quality control, and leadership

🧪 Modern Biomedical Engineering Laboratories
Thanks to long-term cooperation with the Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU) and support from the Czech Development Agency (CzDA), UHS and ITC has opened two new specialized laboratories dedicated to biomedical engineering education:
1️⃣General Medical Equipment and Maintenance Laboratory
Officially opened on November 19, 2024, this new facility allows students to work directly with hospital-grade devices used in clinical practice. The lab is equipped with:
- Defibrillator Comen S5
- Electrosurgical unit SMT BM 125
- Astar Etius electrotherapy unit
- MONNAL T75 mechanical ventilator
- Rossmax X3 and Omron HEM-907 blood pressure monitors
- Edan M10 and CONTEC CMS-60C pulse oximeters
- Spirometer and suction units
- ECG and vital signs monitors
- Electrical safety analyzers and calibration tools
- And many more…

2️⃣ Laboratory of Fluid Mechanics and Plumbing in Healthcare
Opened in 2022, this laboratory provides students with hands-on experience in fluid dynamics, gas systems, and pneumatic circuits used in medical technologies. It includes equipment such as:
- Medical air compressor and air chamber system
- Pneumatic and hydraulic training kits (PNEHYKUR)
- Pressure and flow meters (rotameters, Hall sensors, Pitot tubes, mass flow meters)
- 3D printer for model prototyping
- Pneumatic tools and valves (PEEP, pressure-reducing, relief valves)
- Models of the respiratory system, humidifiers, and suction units
These laboratories meet international educational standards and enable students to perform real-world diagnostics, functional testing, and preventive maintenance of medical devices under professional supervision.

The goal of this cooperation is to strengthen Cambodia’s healthcare system by producing a new generation of biomedical technicians capable of supporting hospitals and health institutions throughout the country.
